Year 8 and Year 9 Netball
Our 9B played their first round of league fixtures on Tuesday this week at Urmston Leisure Centre. The first game was against Flixton, it took a while to settle in, but the team got into it and showed some excellent play down the court. The game ended 2-1 to Flixton. The second game was against AOM, the girls quickly got going, driving forward onto the ball and picking up a number of interceptions. This game was superb, putting into practice all their hard work from training. The final score was 5-1. Excellent shooting from Ruby Simms, Evie Scott and Amelie Sutton.
Last night was the first round of the Sisters n Sport plate, after the girls were knocked out of the cup, losing by one earlier in the term to Kings. Playing against a strong side from Alderley Edge school for Girls, the Year 8 girls dominated from the start, creating space, driving onto the ball and using strong passes. Hannah Hookway at C, Ellie England at GA and Jess Broughall at GS were in sync throughout the game, making play look effortless. As the game went on, the team continued to settle and continued on their winning streak. Alice Reik at WD picked up numerous interceptions and lose balls and was consistent in helping both the attack and defence. Amelie Greaves and Evie England were unstoppable in the defensive end, putting lots of pressure on the shooters. Annie C, Gracie B and Alice O had a great impact on the game at WA and WD, finding lots of space and supporting play at both shooting ends. The game finished, with us winning 33-23. Alderley Edge were a strong side and was an excellent opportunity for the year 8 girls to challenge themselves. Well done!
