Year 12 Problem Solving day at Manchester University
After an introductory session showcasing a range of problem solving skills, students worked on several tasks involving consecutive numbers. Having warmed up their mathematical minds, students worked in teams of 4, to tackle an eclectic mix of ten thought provoking questions.
After lunch, there was a talk outlining the style of questions that might be included in a university entrance test (TMUA, MAT or STEP) and the courses/universities requiring such a test. The day finished with an exciting, fast paced, mini Senior Team Challenge of two rounds: a Group round and Cross-number round. It was a fantastic day, packed full of interesting problems ranging from moderately challenging to fiendishly so. Looking forward to the next AMSP (Advanced Maths Support Programme) event.
