Wellington Debating Society
A great final debate before our debating teams head off to the Oxford University Schools’ Debating Competition. This week we debated whether parents should be prosecuted for the crimes of their children. A great topic that led to all sorts of very interesting points, but the Government, or Proposition, had its work cut out: usually laws that aren’t laws, aren’t laws for a good reason. And the probable consequences of prosecuting parents for the crimes of their children are deeply problematic: is the status quo so bad that we need to do something as drastic as this? Of course, the answer is no. However, the Government did really well to argue how and why this should happen. We’re well prepared for whatever motions Oxford University might throw at us next week!
