Spanish A-Level Study Day

On Tuesday 26th November, Year 13 Spanish pupils spent the day at Home cinema in Manchester for an A-level study day. The day started with a university style lecture which set out a brief synopsis of the film they were going to watch and details of the director, Pilar Palermo. This was led by Dr Carmen Herrero from the Manchester Metropolitan University.

After watching the film Dr Herrero led activities on the literary, social and political contexts of the film, as well as key vocabulary on these topics and a critical analysis of the film just as the pupils do for their writing exam in Spanish. The film was enjoyed by all and touched on the themes of teen motherhood, family, friendship, education, music and dance; all of which are relevant to the A-level course.

The pupils participated with enthusiasm in the activities and enjoyed an opportunity to engage with Spanish film and language outside of the classroom.
