Reading Resources
Reading – for purpose and for pleasure – is central to the Wellington curriculum. We actively encourage pupils to regularly read a wealth of texts – from novels to non-fiction – to support their studies and further their interests. Regular reading is tantamount to academic success, pupils’ wellbeing, and their ability to communicate confidently within the School Community. Reading features heavily across all subjects and pastoral programmes.
The School’s Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is open from 8am to 4pm every day to allow pupils to access a wealth of reading materials and resources, as well as the opportunity to get support with homework and additional study. The Accessit platform further allows pupils to identify reading materials that may interest them. The LRC also facilitates Year 7 LRC lessons, computer study, and guided reading interventions, as well as being a safe, friendly space for pupils to engage in a number of activities. Our LRC Manager, teaching assistants and Sixth Form helpers are on hand too to support your child.
Please find below a range of reading lists and PiXL’s termly Reading Newsletters which will provide you with a range of reading recommendations. Please do also encourage your son/daughter to make use of our local libraries and bookshops too. Schemes like BorrowBox require local library membership but allow pupils to access a range of ebooks and audiobooks.
If we can offer any further advice to support your child’s reading, please do not hesitate to contact the School.
