Inspired Reading Projects
8F amazed me with the quality of their creative projects this week, which were based on books they have been reading. There were songs, chapters, dioramas, mini films and stop-motion productions, all encapsulating the spirit of the students’ varied fiction and non-fiction reading choices.
Jasmine Hallett, Ava Cockayne, Carys Morrow and Alex Cojeen produced incredible stop-motions films of their favourite books featuring the 1940s coming-of-age novel I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, Star Wars, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and World War II history. The class was riveted watching their work which showed painstaking attention to detail and hours of work!
A number of students produced dioramas – 3D models showing a scene from their books. Poppy Baker’s colourful creation is based on the book of the Disney film Up, Albert Iacob spoke to the class about the complex and challenging novel The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides which he had brought to life, and Kseniia Fartushna, whose diorama featured a clay model of a dinosaur suspended in the air, shared interesting facts from her non-fiction reading book, What If? by Randall Munroe.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable lesson learning about the inspiration behind the projects produced, and I hope that 8F will now go on to read some of their classmates’ recommendations for themselves!
