GA WorldWise Quiz

Last week (Wednesday 4th December) six of our Year 10 students competed in the WorldWise Quiz organised by the Geographical Associated, which was hosted at MMU.

There have been a number of weekly heats and an exceptional amount of revision in preparation for the quiz. In team one was Daisy Bennett, James Kirkup and Alexander Edwards and team two was Rowan Ledgard, Elizabeth Leigh – Valero and Henry Hunter.

With 20 + teams eager to win the GA trophy competition was tough. The students did exceptionally well. The team held their nerve and approached each round with enthusiasm, teamwork and focus.

We are so proud of how the students did. We might not have won this year, but we came extremely close! Bring on next year!

Review of the quiz by Daisy B: ‘The Worldwise quiz tests existing geographical knowledge from both in and outside of lesson. It challenges your ability to apply this information in eight different rounds such as mixed bag: which are a variety of different questions involving interpretation of graphs, landmark locations, capital cities and currency etc.
Geography in the news: which questions your knowledge on recent geographical subjects within the world (e.g. Volcanic eruptions, floods) And fieldwork: recognising geographical equipment eg clinometer, callipers, ranging poles. Deciding the best way to describe findings and analysing them such as surveys, measurements etc.
Overall, I believe this quiz is an exciting and competitive competition with the different rounds filled with a range of questions to show off your strengths in general geographical knowledge and learn new information, also encouraging you to realise how we are impacted by geography in today’s modern world.’
