English Department – Library of Legends

The English department have awarded this half-term’s Library of Legends to the following students: Lucy Whittle, Kelly Doran Garrett, Sam Donahue, Evie Smith, Jacob Cleevely, Evie England, Mabel Bryce-Kisby, Isolde Powell, Florence Brown, Jessica Bell, Aida Kelly, Charlie Windram and Alexander Edwards.

Their teachers had this to say about them:

Lucy Whittle- Lucy has endeavoured to improve the quality and depth of her written work this half term. I have been impressed with the quality of her writing about Lord of the Flies- well done!

Kelly Doran Garrett- Kelly has been great in lessons this half-term – so full of insight into the themes of Macbeth as well as everything else we study. Great classroom contributions every day.

Sam Donahue- Sam has started his English Literature GCSE with an absolutely brilliant attitude. When were exploring poetry he consistently made insightful inferences, testing his ideas in class. Outside the classroom, he has produced really pleasing home learning. Now we are doing Shakespeare and I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do. Sam has stepped-up – and that needs to be applauded.

Evie Smith- Evie is consistently writing in an analytical way demonstrating a perceptive and detailed understanding of the texts she is reading. Well done!

Jacob Cleevely- Jacob has produced some interesting writing this term. One in particular had a clear voice, various language techniques and some sarcasm! Fantastic!

Evie England- Evie has made an excellent start to GCSE Literature and is particularly enjoying the study of Macbeth. She is perceptive in the inferences that she makes about character and her understanding of the play is consistently developing. I’m really pleased with her attitude to learning and her overall efforts so far this term.

Mabel Bryce-Kisby- Mabel has produced detailed and thoughtful responses to literature, extending her ideas beyond the ordinary to explore the impact of a writer’s craft. She shares these ideas during class discussions, too, elevating the quality of everyone’s work. Well done, Mabel!

Isolde Powell- Isolde is dedicated, enthusiastic, and a joy to have in the classroom. She throws herself into every lesson, making excellent contributions and working hard whether alone or with her desk partner.  She has made a superb start to the year and I look forward to hearing more of her perceptive opinions about literature.

Florence Brown- Florence has made a fabulous start to English at Wellington: she is keen and thoughtful about her answers and often makes excellent contributions to class discussions. Well done!

Jessica Bell- Jessica is a phenomenally-talented Literature student: she is perceptive, considerate and her writing is eloquent and sophisticated. Well done on a great start to the course!

Aida Kelly- Aida has shown a huge improvement in her written work since the beginning of Year 11. It is clear that she has been working hard at home to improve her language analysis and her thesis statements. She has also been handing in extra essays for feedback. Keep up the hard work, Aida!!

Charlie Windram- Charlie has a positive attitude to learning and puts a lot of effort into his work. He is ha fantastic manners and is pleasant to everyone in the class.

Alexander Edwards-Alexander has started the English Literature GCSE course in fine fashion. He has demonstrated perceptive understanding of both poetry and ‘Macbeth’ and can express his ideas in an eloquent manner.

Well done to all the students who will receive a badge and certificate for their endeavours.
