Cambridge HE+ Residential
I was delighted to accompany 7 Year 12 students on the HE+ Residential at Clare College, University of Cambridge on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Blessed with glorious weather, Cambridge looked resplendent in the Spring sunshine and students were in awe of the of the fabulous surroundings on their tours of several colleges. It was great to hear from current Cambridge ‘students like them’ who helped dispel some of the myths around Oxbridge.
A jam-packed schedule included interview and application workshops, personal statement writing, an engineering workshop, arts and humanities taster sessions, an anthropology, archaeology and identity workshop to name but a few! A real highlight was the medieval medicine exhibition which included several references to GCSE topics – the students and I had to be dragged out of there!
The ‘Magnificent Seven’ thrived on the challenge of the academic sessions as well as the evening entertainment with Jess Bell and Matilda MacNab winning the general knowledge quiz and Abi Park the champion of the music quiz. If there were to be a winner for making the most of the free food, Sufyaan Farid and Alex Stockton-Hine would be joint champs!
It would be remiss of me not to mention Mrs Wilson’s input in organising the entire trip.
Thanks to CHHS and Clare College for their help, support and organisation; we were made to feel incredibly welcomed at all times.
Mr Scott
