Celebrating Stories: The Interschool Book Awards
On Monday this week, we had the absolute pleasure of gathering at Wellington School for the Interschool Book Awards—a celebration of reading, creativity, and some truly delicious cake! The event brought together students and librarians from Altrincham College, Wellington School, and The Girls’ Grammar to showcase their favourite shortlisted books, which they did with enthusiasm and flair.
Each school wowed us with their unique presentations, making it clear just how much these stories had inspired them, with students from The Girls’ Grammar school literally showering us with words to illustrate their winning book Away With Words. Their creativity even extended to the snacks, with chocolate sandwiches straight out of the pages of the book—a treat that had everyone talking (and munching).
Altrincham College took us on an educational journey with their chosen book, Dog of the Deadlands. Through their presentation, we learned so much about the Chernobyl disaster, the real-life event that forms the backdrop of this moving story. It was eye-opening and truly fascinating.
Wellington School’s students brought their artistic talents to the forefront. Their artwork and dramatic readings based on their winning book were both powerful and heartfelt, drawing everyone into the world of the story. I was very proud of how they infused their presentation with humour and genuine warmth.
A big thank you to all the schools for their hard work and creativity, and to everyone who made the event such a success. We look forward to the winner being announced on the 5th March at a poetry workshop being held at Wellington for all the students involved. A very special thank you to Trafford libraries for providing this workshop and the generous prize for the winning school.
