Staff Book Club: Butter by Asako Yuzuki
This half term, the staff book club gathered at The Moss Trooper to discuss Butter by Asako Yuzuki, a book that sparked lively conversation, mixed opinions, and some fascinating insights into Japanese culture.
The novel delves into the life of a female serial killer, inspired by a real-life case, and explores themes of women in society, identity, and the often-unspoken pressures placed on women.
While opinions on the book were divided, that only made for a more engaging discussion. Some found it overlong and felt the writing didn’t quite deliver, while others thought it was a fascinating read, particularly because it wasn’t something they would normally pick up. We were especially lucky to have Miss Hollis in the group, who brought a unique perspective as someone who has lived in Japan.
As always, the setting at The Moss Trooper made for a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. A big thanks to everyone who joined in for another enriching book club session. Here’s to the next read—whatever it may be, we’re ready to dive in!
