Holocaust Memorial Day
On Tuesday, Emilia Howarth, Year 12 delivered a speech at Trafford Waterside centre for Holocaust Memorial Day where she talked about her inspirational Lessons from Auschwitz project, an organisation set on spreading awareness and education on the Holocaust.
From her inspirational visit Emila has created a piece of art where she has tried to capture the personal background of Jewish culture and heritage and the separate lives they lived before the holocaust.
‘One thing LFA put into perspective really well was that every number was a life, a child, a mother, a father, a grandparent. They laughed, cried, loved, sang, just like you and I. I sometimes find that while learning about history, we can get lost in figures and statistics, just to study for a test and never think of again. However, it’s important that we stop, and consider. Take time to learn about the individual families and communities, and if you do, you’ll realise they were no different from any of us’

The feedback of Emilia’s speech has been so positive, one email read.
“I wanted to write to say how much I enjoyed the presentation by a member of your school at the Holocaust Day remembrance service at Waterside Arts this week. She spoke well and I was impressed by the art work inspired by the school visit to Auschwitz. I’m so pleased your school values the importance of us learning from history”
Well done Emilia!
