Year 9 Skills Challenge
Half of Year 9 took part in a careers event on Thursday. Eighteen volunteers from industry with a wide range of experience in a variety of sectors acted as mentors to small groups of students who competed against each other across four tasks. Each task was aimed at highlighting the transferable employability skills students will need as they move through school, and ultimately into the world of work. Communication, problem-solving, creativity and resilience are often difficult to quantify but are essential for all.
Unfortunately, due to the unpredictability of this week’s weather, Friday’s careers event was postponed until later this term when the other half of Year 9 will have the chance to pit their wits (and skills) against each other.
As always, we are grateful to the parents, alumni and wider business community for their support of our careers programme but especially on Thursday when many had battled blizzard conditions to get here to work with our students.
