Year 10 & 11 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition – Trafford College Visit
On Friday 29th November, the GCSE Food classes went on a visit to Trafford College, where they learnt how to fillet a fish.
Mr Paul Taylor, the Catering Programme Lead, worked with pupils showing them how to remove the scales, head and guts from the fish before they then filleted it and removed the bones. The fish fillets were then vacuum packed and are now in the freezer at school for the pupils to produce a dish with at a later stage.
This was a great opportunity for pupils to see a catering kitchen and learn about industry practice as well as gaining experience of the high level practical skills required for GCSE.
Everyone worked well and we will hopefully be going back to the college next year for a dining experience at the Aspire restaurant which is where the students studying at Trafford College showcase their skills.
Fantastic effort everyone.
