Year 12 Politics Trip to Parliament & The Supreme Court

Our Year 12 politics students thoroughly enjoyed their trip to London, visiting the Houses of Parliament and the Supreme Court. During our tour of parliament, students impressed the tour guide with their knowledge of topics such as the Magna Carta and the nature of the UK’s uncodified constitution.

The students were privileged enough to spend time in the House of Commons and House of Lords Public Galleries, witnessing the swearing in of MPs and Peers. This is a rare occurrence, typically taking place only at the beginning of new parliaments.  During their traverses through the corridors and halls of Westminster, students encountered MPs from across the political spectrum, including Chris Bryant and Lee Anderson.

To finish off our time inside Westminster Palace, the students became Connor Rand’s, newly elected MP for Altrincham and Sale West, first visiting constituents. Students asked Rand a range of thoughtful questions on topics including electoral reform, education policy and housing. Rounding off our trip, students crossed Parliament Square to pay a visit to the UK Supreme Court. Students heard a mock case, deliberating and passing judgement on Platt vs the Isle of Wight 2017. A trip that will surely live long in the memory!
