Author Visit – Tom Palmer
For our third author visit of the year we had well- known children’s author Tom Palmer come to Wellington School; his books are very popular in the LRC, as was obvious from the large amount of pupils who came to meet him and request autographs, photos and signed copies of his books!
Tom’s football books are very popular as are his history books about the Second World War and we discovered a connection with the recently renamed Ike Alterman building at school; Tom had interviewed Ike amongst other Holocaust survivors for his book, After the War, a story about three children who, in 1945, arrive in England having survived the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps.
It was interesting to hear Tom talk about how he writes, where he gets his inspiration from and how he never felt that someone like him could become a successful author. Writing about what interests you was good advice and pupils asked some very wise questions about the writing process and some about football (well actually quite a lot about football!)
So thank you Tom for a fabulous afternoon, the pupils thoroughly enjoyed it and I think Neville in Year 11 really enjoyed your very long chat about Leeds United!
