Black History Month
October is Black History Month and I’d like to share with parents what we planned for pupils to celebrate this event.
Year 7 took part in a treasure hunt competition and homework task based around this year’s theme of Celebrating our Sisters – learning about the lives of 5 influential Black British women. The treasure hunt was won by Jake Drinkwater, Averie Tse and Kelly Tse. Congratulations! We hope you all enjoy your prize and continue to learn about Black British History through this wonderful book.
Year 8 and Year 9 have completed specially designed homework tasks to support their current units of learning, with Year 8 learning about the Black presence in Tudor England and Year 9 learning about the impact of the Bristol Bus Boycott on British Civil Rights.
KS4 and KS5 pupils have had a tutor takeover discussion centred around the importance of Black History Month and the steps we can take as a school to make Wellington more Equal, Diverse and Inclusive. It’s been a wonderful month of commemoration up to this point and we’ve all learned an awful lot.
