At the end of last year, the English department held its Spelling Bee competition! Each English class completed a spelling test in advance and the winners of this round then competed in the grand final to be crowned as Wellington’s best speller in year 7. The final was a glitzy affair (Mrs Jordan fully embraced the game show host role and wore sequins to bring some sparkle to the occasion, anyway), which tested the nerves and the spelling prowess of the competitors. Each pupil was put on the spot to spell some very tricky words, all of which had featured in their work throughout year 7, such as judicious and pentameter. All of the finalists did brilliantly and got through a number of very tense and testing rounds. Finally, we were down to the final round and our winner was crowned – massive congratulations to Jasmine Hallett of 7F (now 8F), who is the proud owner of the Spelling Bee trophy! And a huge well done to all of our finalists for doing so well and bringing so much fun and enthusiasm to the event!
