Politics Trip
For the first time since 2019 the History and Politics department were able to take pupils on their annual pilgrimage to Parliament.
The group may have departed in darkness, but the sun was shining upon arrival in Westminster, and Parliament was glistening following Big Ben’s refurbishment. The tour took in both houses of Parliament, central lobby, Westminster hall, and the King’s robing room. Next was a very insightful Q&A from a Select Committee clerk in one of the committee rooms. We were then greeted by Lord Kennedy, who hosted a Q&A on the effectiveness of the Lords. The tour finished with a lively debate on the extent to which Parliament is able to scrutinise the government, with the blue team victorious.
A quick detour to Downing St preceded a self-guided tour of the Supreme Court. Following the obligatory photo on Parliament Square it was back on the tube to Euston and home 12 hours after we set off! A long, but great day, and a fantastic way to finish for half-term!
