Year 9 – Options Taster Session: Food Preparation and Nutrition
Plenty of fun was had during the Year 9 taster session for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition this week.
Pupils had the opportunity to find out all about the GCSE course which is a fun mix of scientific investigations, practical tasks and learning about where our food comes from and how we can ensure our bodies receive the correct balance of required nutrients.
As part of the session, pupils had a go at answering some examination style questions as well as demonstrating the excellent practical skills they have developed in Key Stage 3 by showing different cutting techniques for carrots. The final part of the session involved a short demonstration of the chemical properties of ingredients and how we can test these.
Pupils had a great time and it was good to see them eating the carrots to ensure no food went to waste.
If anyone was unable to attend on the day but is interested in taking food at GCSE then please come along to my room any lunch time and we can have a quick chat.
