Holocaust Memorial Service 2023
On Thursday 26th January Mr Vernon and I accompanied 7 students from Year 7- 9 to perform in the Trafford Holocaust Memorial Service at Sale Waterside Theatre.
The group performed a piece telling the story of Irena Sendler. Irena Sendler was a Polish humanitarian, social worker, and nurse who served in the Polish Underground Resistance during World War II in German-occupied Warsaw, Leading rescue missions that led to the rescue of over 2,500 Jewish children.
The pupils have been have put in an incredible amount of hard work and dedication throughout the whole of December and January to create what was truly an emotive piece. Rabbi Dovid Lewis of South Manchester Synagogue praised the piece, saying “It has been a very long time since I cried in public but the performance by Wellington School of Irena Sendler’s work just made me cry in pubic, it really did send shivers down my spine”.
A huge congratulations to Marlis Robson, Stephanos Farquharson, Tilly Fletcher, Isla James, Joseph Allan , Kelena Lee & Emily Gray. Miss Memery and Mr Vernon are incredibly proud of you all, definitely a career highlight!
A great thanks to the Waterside Theatre for hosting us and to Sandra Stewart, Barby Phillips and Toby Phillips, for organising such a memorable event.
