BBC Share Your Story
We were delighted to welcome the BBC into school on Thursday where CBBC presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing semi-finalist Rhys Stephenson was the headline act. Rhys spoke to Years 7 – 10 about his early life and the route into his career in the media. Students were happy to put Rhys on the spot with plenty of searching questions and each session proved to be valuable in getting our young people to think about their relationships with others, the power of kindness, the benefit of risk-taking and how they might achieve their dreams in the future.
The Year 7 and 8 sessions were particularly poignant and powerful as several students took to the microphone to share their own stories – all with the theme of perseverance and overcoming adversity. We heard from Maiko about her travails as a girl in a boy’s football team, from Mikey about his route into drama and performance. As well as these, hearing from peers who have recently settled in the UK from Hong Kong and from students coping with autism were particularly enlightening and informative for students and staff alike.
