Ike Alterman – Holocaust Survivor Talk

On Wednesday 30^th November, Ike Alterman gave up his time to speak to Year 10 Historians and 6^th Form students. Ike is a Holocaust Survivor.

To a packed Adshead Hall filled with around 140 pupils, the Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham and Nihal Arthanayake of BBC 5 Live, Ike spoke poignantly about his life before, during and after the Second World War. Ike implored pupils to remember his story, the family he lost and the 6 million murdered for their faith. His main message was to “Help everybody! Help the person who hasn’t got the facilities and education you have! Do it! Don’t wait for other people!”.

It was a lifechanging experience for all present and one of the most inspiring speeches I have ever had the pleasure of hearing in person. We have now integrated Ike’s story into our History curriculum so our pupils can learn from his experiences in the future.

After Ike’s talk, two of our Ukrainian pupils, Vlad and Sonia, were interviewed by the BBC along with Ike. Thank you to Ike, the Jewish Fed, Mayor Andy Burnham and the BBC for making the day so memorable and special.
