Year 10 Football
The Year 10 team showed their character and resilience once again to overturn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win.
The match was played on a very soggy home pitch against a tough opponent in Audenshaw on Wednesday evening. The travelling team had a fantastic goalkeeper that kept them in the game for the majority of the match, parrying the ball away from a great effort from Otis Morris (the dead ball specialist) very late in the second half. As well as the rock at the back they had two very lively forwards that were causing our defence a headache. This said, every one of them stepped up to the challenge and managed the keep them at bay after the initial lapse in concentration. Special mention needs to go to Jimmy Taafe here who, as always, was solid in defence and put his body on the line on multiple occasions to ensure their shots did not get through. This is even more impressive given the fact his ankle was 3x the size it should be after rolling it the day before. Our first goal came from Harry Pleasant with one of his trademark edge of the box shots that boomed through the bodies of players to ripple in the back of the net. Then finally, with only minutes left on the clock, our captain, Ben Westwood, stepped up and smashed in a close-range effort from a corner. The crowd of very loyal supporters went wild! The Team, to a man, were excellent. One person just edged the Man of the Match performance though and that was Tom Moloney. Although he did not manage to get on the score sheet, he did everything else. He left everything on that pitch on Wednesday and really utilised his characteristics of speed and strength when pressing from the front.
I am always proud of this group of lads and the manor of their victory is what they deserve! We have now set up a quarter final match against either Our Lady’s Manchester or Abraham Moss to be played in the new year.
