7R – What makes someone a hero?

This half term 7R have been discussing the qualities of a hero while they begin their study of the novel ‘The Lion Above the Door’, which is about a boy who goes on a school trip to learn about war heroes. We had several discussions about heroes in different situations and what made them heroic, before deciding we needed to hear other peoples’ opinions. So, on Thursday, we took a ‘mini-trip’ around the school to interview members of staff and other students about what they thought made someone a hero.

We visited all sorts of people, from Mrs Roberts, Ms Vitalis and Ms Berryman in resources, to students in Hub 1, Mrs Hancock in the Hive and even Mr Holt outside the staffroom. A special mention must go to Freddie who suggested that we should ask the dining hall staff too as they gave us some great answers and were super helpful. After walking all around the school – or hobbling with crutches in my case – we (reluctantly) returned to room 19 to talk about what we had learned and take a few minutes to relax before period 4.

The students thoroughly enjoyed their adventure, learning something in a new way and 7R have requested that we go on more ‘mini-trips’ this year so, watch out Wellington School; we’ll be back!
